Who We Are

HeyG ("we", "our", or "us") is a math learning application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

Information We Collect

Information collected automatically:

• Device identifier: A randomly generated anonymous ID created when you first open the app. This is not tied to your name, Apple ID, or any other personal identifier.
• Learning data: Which courses you access, questions you attempt, answers you provide, and your progress through chapters. This is stored locally on your device and synced to our servers to preserve your progress.
• App analytics: Basic usage data such as app version, platform (iOS/Android), and feature usage. This data is anonymous and used to improve the app.

Information you may choose to provide:

• Email address: Only if you choose to link one for account recovery or purchase receipts. This is optional and never required.
• Payment information: When you purchase a course or subscribe to AI Tutor, payment is processed entirely by Apple (iOS) or Square (Android). We never see, store, or have access to your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details.

Information we do NOT collect:

• Your name
• Your location
• Your contacts
• Your photos or files
• Your browsing history
• Advertising identifiers

How We Use Your Information

• Provide the service: Save your progress, track which courses you've purchased, and manage your AI Tutor sessions.
• Improve the app: Understand which features are used and where students struggle, so we can improve content and explanations.
• Process purchases: Verify that payments were completed successfully and grant access to purchased courses or subscriptions.
• Provide support: Respond if you contact us with a question or issue.

AI Tutor

When you use the AI Tutor feature, the math problem you're working on and your answer are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a step-by-step explanation. These interactions are not linked to your identity. We do not use your AI Tutor interactions to train AI models.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not display ads in the app.

We share information only with the following service providers, solely for the purpose of operating the app:

• Apple: In-app purchase processing (iOS)
• Square: Payment processing (Android)
• Anthropic: AI Tutor explanations
• Railway: Server hosting

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

Children's Privacy

HeyG is an educational app designed for students of all ages, including children under 13. We take children's privacy seriously.

The app is designed so that no personal information is required to use it. Students are identified only by an anonymous device ID — we do not collect names, email addresses, photos, or location from any user by default.

We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond the anonymous usage data described above. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that their child has provided personal information (such as an email address), they may contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to review the information associated with their child's device, request deletion of that information, or request that we stop collecting information from their child's device.

Data Storage and Security

Your learning progress is stored both locally on your device and on our servers (hosted by Railway in the United States). Data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. All API requests are authenticated using HMAC-SHA256 signatures to prevent tampering.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you stop using the app, your data remains available so you can pick up where you left off if you return. You may request deletion of all your data at any time by contacting us.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Request a copy of the data we hold about your device
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of analytics data collection

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request its deletion. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last updated.
